9 Creative 8x8 Bathroom Layout Ideas to Maximize your Space (2024)

Designing the floor plan of a bathroom can be a head-scratching experience. After all, there are so many functions to consider and fixtures to fit into a relatively small space, especially when considering the shower, tub, or sink placement and how they flow together.

In this blog post, I want to share some ideas for arranging an 8×8 bathroom with different layout needs, such as walk-in shower, freestanding bathtub, double vanity vs single vanity, etc. With those practical 8×8 bathroom layout ideas, you can achieve both style and functionality, even in a more confined space.

Understanding the dimensions of a 8×8 bathroom

An 8×8 bathroom is a medium sized bathroom. It is a bit larger than a 5×7 one, offering more room to move around. If you have a smaller bathroom, then my ideas for 5×7 bathroom layout might be a better fit for you!

The dimensions of an 8×8 bathroom are 8 feet in both width and length, providing a total area of 64 square feet. It’s a moderate-sized space, and though it’s not overly spacious, it allows for more flexibility in arranging fixtures.

It also depends on how you’d like to use this space. For example, my master bathroom is around 8×8 ft, and when used as a master bathroom with lots of functionalities to pack in, it doesn’t feel like a huge space. However, if I were to use it as a guest bathroom, it would feel more spacious.

Layout Ideas for 8×8 Bathrooms

To help you visualize things better, I made some floor plans that you can refer to while designing your eight by eight feet bathroom. With these creative layout ideas, you’ll be able to design a bathroom that fits both your needs and style. Whether you want to use a wall to wall shower, corner shower, or both a shower and a tub, I’ve got you!

Before diving into the layout ideas, I want to remind you that the bathroom layout ideas below are meant to be flexible: Feel free to move the door around if there’s no obstacles on the desired walls, so print it out and rotate it when designing your 8ft by 8ft bathroom. You can even convert the hinged door style to a pocket door for more space saving!

So without further ado, here are 9 layout ideas for your 8×8 bathroom:

You can place the shower and toilet on one wall, and the sink on the opposite wall. I don’t really like seeing the toilet as soon as I open the door, and if you feel the same, what you can do is use a water closet to keep the toilet enclosed.

This way, you can create a small cubicle for the toilet with its own little door, so it’s hidden away. This layout is great if you have a shared bathroom, so when someone needs to shower while you’re using the toilet, you still have some privacy.

This layout is a variation of the other one shared before, except the door here opens in the middle of the wall. The toilet and shower are still separated by a wall, but since the toilet is no longer directly in front of the door, there’s less need to cover it up. This way you got a bigger wall-in shower.

There’s lots of walking space here and even some space behind the door to place some storage cabinets or shelves. You can maximize counter space here too.

8×8 bathroom layout idea #3 with double sink

Out of all three, I prefer this layout the best. And that’s why I used this very layout for my own 8×8 master bathroom!

The sink takes up the whole wall on one side, so it can be utilized as a double sink and a long counter with lots of space for storage as well (I used the middle one as a makeup station). The toilet and shower are on the opposite wall, still separated by a divider wall.

What I like about this is that you can use the wall opposite the door to make a great impression, like hanging up a painting or an interesting art piece!

I also like that the toilet is a bit tucked away, future from the view. You can also change the hinged door to a pocket door which is what we did.

If you prefer having the toilet next to the sink for easier access, you can opt for a corner shower instead. The toilet and vanity can be placed on one wall, and the shower would be opposite the toilet.

With this layout, you can make use of the wall next to the toilet for a double sink. There’s enough space to move around in front of the toilet, shower, and vanity. And there’s even some extra space behind the door for storage.

8×8 bathroom layout idea #5 with corner shower

This layout offers the most floor space, though the shower is smaller. The sink and corner shower are on the far wall, and the toilet is near the door opening but behind the door when you enter the room.

This layout is great if you really want to maximize your storage or add other bathroom fixtures, since there’s a lot of space left.

8×8 bathroom layout idea #6 with bathtub and shower

One way to incorporate both shower and tub in your 8×8 bathroom is to place both of them on the far wall and use a wall divider between them. Use a small shower to accommodate the bathtub, which will be fixed to the space. The divider can even be used to add small shelves for toiletries on both sides!

You can use a long vanity and double sink for this type of floor plan, and it would still leave lots of room to walk around between the vanity and toilet. Another plus point is that the toilet is behind the door as you walk in.

8×8 bathroom layout idea #7 with freestanding tub

For a slightly different layout, you can use a corner shower, then place the sink, bathtub, and toilet in close proximity to each other.

The walking area here may not feel as open as other layouts, since the entrance has the vanity and shower on either side, but there’s enough space to stand and move around even with the freestanding shower in the room.

A double sink can still be achieved with a shower and tub, like this floor plan shows. There’s a clear path from the door into the bathroom and a relatively open area in the middle to walk in between fixtures.

You can place the tub diagonally in one corner and have the toilet on the opposite wall. Then use a corner shower next to the tub and utilize the space on the opposite wall for a long vanity and double sink. This layout is interesting in a way that all shower/bath functions are tucked on the left.

8×8 bathroom layout idea #9 with wall to wall shower and tub

Similar to the layout before, this floor plan uses the same design concept with a few tweaks. Here, the bathtub and shower are placed on the left wall with a dividing wall between them, while the toilet and vanity are on the right wall.

This layout would look more spacious compared to the previous one, since the tub isn’t at an angle. Again, you could make use of the wall opposite the door to showcase some kind of artwork as a wow factor.

You could also use a single sink instead of a double one, if you want to have more counter space.

8×8 Bathroom Layout Ideas Summary

Space planning an 8×8 bathroom doesn’t have to be intimidating. I really think that looking through different floor plans and giving lots of thoughts on the bathroom layouts can help you transform your bathroom into something that is functional and beautiful.

I hope you can use these floor plans and layout ideas as a jumping off point to start thinking about clever storage solutions or a strategic placement of fixtures for your upcoming 8×8 bathroom remodel.
